Let’s talk about a hard truth. You are never going to own YouTube. Today I want to talk about the importance of YouTube Marketing especially as it relates to building your marketing list, because you’re never going to own YouTube, right?

So if YouTube changes the way that you interact with your subscribers, or the way that you’re able to post, or even if they change the annotation structure where you can link a video directly to your web page or your often page, then you’re going to loose contact with all the people that you’ve been building a relationship with over the last few months and years depending on how long you’ve been on YouTube.

YouTube as a Video Blog

So your major goal is to use YouTube as a content hub to generate an audience that’s interested in what you’re doing, and then to strategically invite them to join you on your personal blog. And the reason I say strategically is because you don’t want to be constantly selling, selling, selling, unless you’re doing affiliate marketing, or eBay, or like Amazon affiliate type of stuff.

You want to be in a position where you’re engaging your audience and you’re able to say to them, hey, you know I’ve got this free eBook, I go through all my advanced topics in it, and it’s really simple, it’s illustrated, you’re going to love it a lot. So if you like the content that I’ve been showing you today you can download that free eBook. And then what you’re doing is you’re getting them off of YouTube, a property you do not own, and you’re getting them onto your website, a property that you do own.

Own your Audience

And now you’re able to capture their name and email in exchange for a book that adds value or a service, a product that adds value to their life and you’re able to now continue to market to them through your email marketing list. I use GetResponse, I think GetResponse is the easiest to use, there are some features and integrations I wish were there, but lots of work around and if you have a good developer, it’s a great program to work with.

So, that’s my marketing tip for today. YouTube is a great list-building resource, but it’s its own thing at the same time, right? You don’t want to like just use YouTube to build your list, you want to use YouTube to create relationships with your audience, and to build authority for yourselves that when it’s appropriate, you can make an offer to your audience that will capture their data and they become part of your own. So, thanks so much for tuning in today.
